When I was a schoolboy, my father owned a Mercedes Benz. Every day, I went to school in that car with pride. But life changed. My father faced tough times, and maintaining the car became impossible. The car grew old, the floorboards were damaged, and repairs were out of reach.
Soon, my friends began to mock it, calling it a “Flintstones car.” Their laughter cut deeper than I could admit. Over time, I began to dislike the brand, not because there was anything wrong with Mercedes, but because it reminded me of one of the hardest chapters of my life.
Today, I can afford to drive any car I want and I do. From BMWs to other luxury brands, I’ve owned and enjoyed many. But one car I will never buy is a Mercedes Benz. Not because I don’t respect the brand, but because it carries a memory I chose to leave behind.
Sometimes in life, it’s not about what you can afford, but what you choose to allow into your life. Certain things hold reminders of pain, and you don’t need to keep them just to prove a point.
Life gives us endless options. If something brings back hurt, walk away. If something holds you back, let it go. Success is not about clinging to everything it’s about choosing what serves your happiness and leaving behind what doesn’t.
Because true freedom is not only about what you achieve, but about what you refuse to carry with you.
