Anthropologists say the first sign of human civilization was not a tool, not a weapon, not even fire. It was a healed femur bone, the thigh bone. In the animal kingdom, when a femur was found that had healed, it meant someone had carried that injured person, fed them, protected them, and cared for them until they recovered. That was the true beginning of humanity, the moment we decided to look after one another.
This truth shaped my own journey too. When I earned my very first salary of Rs. 17,500, I made a choice. My elder sister and my brother-in-law, Malan, taught me to donate 10% of my earnings to those in need. The amount wasn’t large, but the decision mattered. From the first day of my career, I wanted to remind myself that success has no meaning if it’s only about me.
Over the years, I’ve seen how competitive the world has become. Some people thrive, others struggle. But let’s be clear: those who fall behind are not always at fault. Sometimes it’s about their capacity, sometimes about circumstances. The race is simply too fast and too fierce for everyone to win.
And that’s exactly why those of us who can run further must never forget those who cannot. Our responsibility is not just to reach the finish line but to extend our hand to those who are left behind.
Because real success is not just about what you build for yourself. It is about how much you give back, how much you care, and how much you lift others.
Humanity began when we cared for the weakest among us.
And it will endure only if we continue to do the same.
